poker/sitter

Post by BigCasino »

A friend of mine mentioned that he was thinking about getting a cob after he got his new life insurance policy enrollment, his birthday is next month so I decided I was going to make him a pipe as a surprise, since he mentioned a cob I figured I would make him a pipe that looked similar to a cob so this is what I came up with
and as I was making it I kept sending him pics asking him questions about how he thought I should make this pipe so he designed his own pipe with out knowing he did so
here it is

I can see the pics.

Lots to like here - your bowl shape isn't lost at the shank, and that transition is nice and crisp, as is the joint from shank to stem, so technicalities are not presenting an obstacle.

Overall to my eye it's stem-heavy, and probably looks all the more so because of the very slight bulge at the stem, or sort of reverse taper (which isn't really carried through the shank). Keeping that more delicate and more uniformally cylindrical would make the pipe look a little more balanced I think.

Good stuff.

Thanks Sas, I thought the stem looked like it was tapered that way too, but thought maybe I was seeing more than what was there, I actually broke this stem while I was drilling it, but it was my last stem I had so I finished it anyways for the practice, the darn thing came loose from my jig and rode up the bit and busted a chunk out of the bottom, but I figured it would be good practice to try and fit a new stem to it later
Thanks for the comments, when I fit the new stem to it I'll try and pay closer attention to the sizing
