Two Pokers

Post by DaGamba »

Hi guys,

it's been some time since I last posted. So much time that I actually had to look for the button where to make a new topic...
Well, here are two pokers. I got a commision of a poker, made two just to be sure, sort of.
I would love your input on both these pipes. There are quite some misstakes and "ugliness" that I can see but it would be nice to get your confirmation.
Other than that, I have quite a nice workshop nowdays. I will post pix in another thread and make you all jealous
So, here's the pipes:

Looking forward to comments from all of you guys.

Hi,
think you shoot with a wide angle... don't you ? difficult to have an opinion.
I have a preference for the finish of the second one. I'm not a fan of the blast on the shank of the first one. I've gone on your website and there's pretty good things.

Best regards,

Thanks for your comments.
I don't know if I shot with a wide angle. I have a pretty crappy camera and no basically nothing about photografy. But the pipes do look like that also in real life (sorry to say...)
The first pipe is rusticated. I'm not so very found of the rustication on the shank either.

Wow, the grain on the second is absolutely stellar!

IMHO, the pipes look well done as far as fit and finish, but the proportions aren't exactly the typical poker. to me they are both a bowl heavy with really light shanks.

Other than that these look excellent.

Thanks for the comments, Ocelot. I'm having a bit of troubles with the poker shape, can't really get it right. The not typical proportions was a choice I made and it might have been a bad choice. Maybe because I wouldn't be able to make a poker "right".

Nice Job!

I think the first one is close to looking like a cherrywood. I quite like the proportions as far as the bowl and shank go, for the first one. I am not a huge fan of the stain color though; it looks a bit uneven to me.

The second pipe, I think needs a bit of work as far as the proportios go. As Ocelot said, it is very bowl heavy. It has some beautiful grain though! Nice job orienting it!
