I got my Cumberland Rod

Post by RadDavis »

I posted the other day in the general discussion section, asking if anyone might know how long it would take to receive my Cumberland Rod order from Tom Eltang. It shipped on Dec. 14.

Well, I got it this afternoon!

This stuff is great! I made a stem for a fan shaped pipe that had been waiting for the cumberland. I posted some pics in the gallery:

Please let me know what you think! This stummel has outstanding fine, dense birdseye on top, but the sides had so many small pits that I had to rusticate it.

I also made a cumberland stem for a smooth fan shape, very similar to this pipe, but when I tried to post them, I got a message that I had run out of space.

Maybe later.....

great work! I really like cumberland, how is it to shape compared to acrylic or rubber?

Cumberland is rubber, so it shapes just like the black ebonite.

I've only made on stem from acrylic. It's a PIA, IMO.

I have a few free acrylics from someone a few months ago. I haven't tried to use them yet.

Doh! Unfinished post...

And one of the pieces looks just like that stem does. Is it "Cumberland?"

Thanks, Guys!

Ben, if it's acrylic, it's not cumberland.

Cumberland and ebonite are both hard rubber, acrylic is, well, acrylic. More of a plastic material. Lucite!
