I don't think I've seen this before. The block had a very small fissure on the outside corner, running horizontal wrt the grain. Thought nothing of it, gave it about 3/4" of clearance (plenty I thought) and damn if the thing didn't run right into the pipe....shame because it was a super tight piece.
I scorched the outside just so it would show up.
It's a crack, soaks up stain horribly.... PITA!
Horizontal (ring grain) cracking?

Re: Horizantal (ring grain) cracking?
Never had one horizontal like that before, vertical yes.
My flaw of the day, a small spot on the outside of the bowl, a small spot on the inside of the bowl, plenty of distance so no way they could be joined up surely, ran some water in and sure enough it came pissing out the other side, the hole was small but like a tube travelling at a diagonal for about an inch and a half perfectly placed to ruin my day! lol

I've only had those on Grecian briar (stuff bought stateside). One of the reasons I stopped buying this side of the pond.
That does suck. Beautiful wood otherwise.

Re: Horizantal (ring grain) cracking?
I have seen once but it was 4-5mm long and something like 0.4-0.5mm thick, it was treated like a normal sandpit and gone in notime...
