well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

So I guess we'll be doing a Cavalier then :P

Can't say that's in my comfort-zone, but hell, I think I'll give it a whirl. Unless we have any other suggestions? Kurt? Sas? Anyone?

I really don't care what we do, but the cavalier seems like a fun diversion, and I thought that was part of the fun of this. Besides, don't you want to see what Wally would do if he joins us? :)

I think that's the point of a PITH. To push yourself beyond your normal limits. I'm nervous about it too. Last year was a bulldog/rhodesian theme. I didn't think I could do it, but all these guys offered so much encouragement that I just had to try. Kurt even did his entry without a lathe to show it could be done! It was an awesome experience.

For sure, I'm excited to get this pipe started! I think what I'd like to do is keep that category relatively flexible, something along the lines of "Cavalier with a twist" try to:
A.) Keep the core of what makes a pipe "Cavalier" with the airway drilled all the way through and a plug on the bottom.
Whilst
B.) Allowing for any "twists" in the design, anything you'd like to try that'd make it unique and one of a kind/ downright unusual.

Put the drawing deadline at December 30th? Or should we extend it into February? I'd like to have it done sooner, but I understand people have busy schedules and need to find free time.

Thoughts?

I've got about 6 pipes to do before Christmas, so February is much better for me.

Pipe in the hat 2012?

I'm in if we stick with a February due date. Anything earlier and I'll have to bow out. I've never done a cavalier so this should be fun.

Alright, February 2nd it is! I'd say the first... but that's so extreme!

Alright, would somebody like to throw together an official thread? As I said before, I'm bad at this stuff.

I'm pretty sure this is the official thread. It has been stickied after all. (Thanks, whoever did that)

Just to clarify ,and please correct me if this isn't accurate, here is a list of the current participants:

1. the rev
2. Massis
3. taharris
4. Alden
5. scotties22
6. mightysmurf8201
7. OregonCustom
8. The Smoking Yeti
9. UberHuberMan
10. mredmond
11. Ocelot55
12. MonsieurLabo

This seems like a pretty good list to start off. There are a lot of talented folks in this list. It would be really great if we could get more of the 'big boys' to participate, but that is a pretty big sacrifice to make a pipe they could sell for loads and give it away. Still I think someone needs to "set the bar," so to speak, but only on a volunteer basis of course.

Anyone else interested? I'm sure we'll gain some and lose some between now and February.

I have read the old threads on former PITHs and I know this is a well understood thought but I might just say it anyways...

I am not very good, though I am going to start now, in fact already have started design work, and will do the absolute best I can. I will make my best pipe ever for this, and it will still be overshadowed by most everyone. Thanks for the opportunity to play with the big boys.

The nice thing about PITH is that it doesn't matter what skill level you're at, all that matters is that you make a pipe. This is a fun way for everyone to stretch their abilities, share their work, put a pipe in someone's hands, and get feedback if they so desire.

That's what it's all about.
