My Two Latest

Post by ricebiscuit »

Here are my two latest. I decided to work on my bent billiard shape. Both have celluloid faux ivory inlays. Let me know what you think!

I can't find anything wrong with either one. The ring might be a little proud on the sandblasted one, but that's niggling. Nice work!

They are certainly both nice, especially the bowl shape and the overall idea. I'd say the stem on the second one is too thick for too long, it looks a little heavy. Also, the shank on the second one seems to "dip" a little along the top line, making it appear that the ring is fatter than the shank itself a half inch before the ring, and that takes away from the flow of that line.

I almost think that the first pipe is the opposite - just a tad more could be taken off the top of the shank to give it just a little more flow onto the line of the stem (and just a hair more curve).

But that's nitpicking to be sure.

Trey,

both are very elegant, the s/b one just a little more.
Perfect job! Congrats.

I agree with Kurt's and Sas's comments, but also agree it's nitpicking, although, the nitpicking stuff is often what separates good from great, so it's something to consider. Good work, though! The color choices and finishing are classy.

Very nice pipes. Nothing to add as I think the minor issues have already been mentioned. Overall, though, really nice composition. These two pipes (especially the first one) remind me of the shaping on old Dunhill Bent Billiards. Nice job!

Hey Trey,
Just checked out your website. Nice layout and nice pipes! Very classic shapes and really nice composition on all of those and really nice stem work. I really like that Lovat. Keep up the great work! and can't wait to see your future work.

Just to echo some of the others...elegant and classy are perfect descriptions. Although a little big, I actually like the ring on the first one.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Kurt and Sas- I agree with both of your critiques. I think the ring became a little proud because I wanted to show off a new material... That was my first time to use celluloid and loved the ivory and maybe got a touch over zealous.
