Evolution of a shape • Omut
Evolution of a shape • Omut
Hey all.
Here is a little history of a shape I've called Omut. A bit more than two years have passed since my very first pipe...
Crafting takes time, rethinking and practice!

Whatever material you used for the extension on the Umut suits it perfectly. Very nice work, Eder.

Eder, your finishing work is absolutely amazing.
Re: Evolution of a shape • Omut
I agree with BeatusLiebowitz, the finishes are amazing.
I like the grain on the first one the best by far. The cross grain on the front and birdseye on the back are stunning.
But I do think you've improved the overall shape towards your last one. I feel the round shank suits the pipe better.

Eder, I love the pipe, stunning stuff. Just one thing tickles me (being a rookie): why do you over-buff the edges?
Re: Evolution of a shape • Omut
Thank you guys,
My finishing has changed pretty a lot since that pipe #13. I've bounced from very complex finishings
to simple ones and recently I found my own way. Actually it's "my own shared way" since the
breakthrough came from a friend; and it turned out to be not only a great idea!
It's just one of my signatures I guess... I like dark stained pipes with sharp edges; and that natural
color of the edges gives more contrast and highlights the lines of the shape. So, there is no big
explanation behind what I do... months back I found that sanding down the edges would be
interesting and it started like that

Re: Evolution of a shape • Omut
Eder, I for one LOVE your edge treatment. Unlike pipes that are obviously and carelessly buffed, your edge treatment is done with purpose and style. And as the new owner of one that sports such treatment, I couldn't be happier.

I new that, Daniel, no. 2 is loaded with different materials that you like.it is a very nice pipe my friend.... but, i like the middle one the best ....
As to me the 3rd one's of course the maturest, Eder. Simply fantastic in style an finish alike.
Cheerio!

Eder, i really love your style. Every time i see a new looking style (or at least new to me) it sends my imagination off in a new direction and helps me to realize that there will always be room for everyone in the pipe making business.
Re: Evolution of a shape • Omut
heheheheheh... hmmm - Walle, have to consider to change my way of thinking ??? hmmmm... maybe not... like it this way heheheheheh... still thanks for showing this to me - who know's where this pipemaking road will take me in future - maybe to pure simplicityWalle wrote:I new that, Daniel, no. 2 is loaded with different materials that you like.it is a very nice pipe my friend.... but, i like the middle one the best ....

Thank you guys,
I'm a bit nervous to see the things going forward. I'm extremely patient with the work I do,
but I can't wait to get better, more mature. I know it's all a matter of time, analysis and
adjustment. I wished I could go from A to C without passing by B.
The time to stop and to rethink... That's how I call the point B... self-reflexion to grow up
