buffer to sander

Post by Aquinas »

I have a 6" buffer from HF that turns at 3600 rpm which after reading about it sounds way to fast. I was thinking I would turn it into a sander for shaping. It has 1/2" threaded shanks. What would you recommend for setting it up as a sander (backing, hook and loop, soft or rigid backing)?

Here is the exact model: I picked it up for $20 at a discount store.

Thanks.

That is generally too fast for buffing, but it would be great rough sander. I have a bench grinder that I put one of those 5/8"-11 arbor hook and loop backing pads onto, with modification of course. works like a charm. I had to essentially drill a hole through the pad and attach it with washers
