2nd Dublin

Post by DaGamba »

Hi all,

here's my second attempt at a Dublin. This one I made for Nate as a trade between newbie pipemakers.

Fire away! :)

Try to clean up the lip button, it's rather big.
The flare on the fan tail has too much of a flare and is out of proportion.
The stem/shank junction should be flush.
Next time try to bring the cheeks in a bit more toward the bottom of the bowl.
All in all, nice second Dublin.

Thanx for your comments Bruce.

And excuse my infinite stupidity but I don't really understand what a fan tail is... And that would be good to know since it's out of proportion! :D

I don't believe you have infinite stupidity, but I know Thad Johnston deals with it daily!
The "fan tail" is the flare toward the lip button.

Bruce, you ignorant slut. A flair like that is commonly referred to as a "fish tail".

A fan tail is the rear end of a ship.

That explains why I didn't know what the f**k Bruce was talking about. That means that Bruce is the stupid one. Phuuu...
And in this case it's probably more correct to call it a whale tail....

Rod,
Since you have been so mean and dismissive, I am leaving this board, as of this moment. I need to check my email.

Personally, I like a bit more cant on my dublin bowls. The pipe in my avatar is an example, though I'm not sure it's visible. It's more of a straight-sided cone, though, so that may change things. What do the more experienced pipe makers say?
On land, at sea, at home, abroad,
I smoke my pipe and worship God.

Well DaGamba, we have already discussed our own thoughts on it but I wanted to say, for a second dublin, I think it is fairly well done. And it smokes very well, so you can't argue too much with that! Nice work.
