New to Pipe Carving as a hobby

Hello everyone,
I am new to pipecarving as a hobby. These pages and many others have provided valuable info.
Howver, i would now like peoples opinions and some ideas on how to improve my carvings. I have carved 2 pipes so far. They can be viewed at:

Welcome!

It looks ike you are off to a very good start. A lot of fun this pipe making, isn't it!

Join in, ask questions, make comments, etc.. I think you'll find this board a lot of fun and a lot of help in the pipe making journey.

Nice! The fist one would have made a nice sitter I don't mean that is not a fine pipe as is, I like it. The other looks good and has a nice looking grain pattern I am sure it will be a nice pipe. Get that grain jumping out at you! Hope your having fun with it!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Tyler, yes this is very addicting. Good news is my wife thinks its being productive. :D

Nice job, Jim. I particularly liked the second one - very balanced. Have you smoked one of your own yet?

I don't particularly like bents so i have only smoked that one once. The second one i have smoked about 5 times and its a wonderful flake pipe. It doesn't get hot at all. The taste of the tobacco comes through. I do still taste the briar towards the end of the bowl but its not a bad taste.
it could be from the briar not having fully dried out but i am not sure.
