Meet Shorty...

Post by SWM »

Hello everyone,

today I would like to present a 'pipe line' to you I call 'Shorty'. There is nothing inventive about this as it has been done before but they are simply fun to make (- and also to have obviously since I could sell more than I can make at the moment  ).

I already showed one in the '"Altering" grain orientation thread' viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5235.

Here are two other ones:

This one is with a black walnut ring, the pics are prior to finishing. After finishing a mate joined in for the photo session:

Did I mention they were really fun to make?

Thoughts appreciated as always...

Best,

Steffen

Sure Daniel,

go ahead you're free...

Although even other pipemakers tend to buy (or rather trade) these li'll stumpies, like this guy for instance  :

Traded it for something resembling a reversed penguin...

Oh sorry, I said 'reversed':

Have fun!

I've been trying to think of a nickname for Roger, and I believe you've nailed it . . . L'il Stumpy! :D Genius, Steffen, genius! You look very dapper in your spectacles smoking your tiny pipe, L'il Stumpy.

They are both fabulous. Yet another pipe I want to copy.

I almost pity the blocks of wood and rods of Lucite destined to become an inferior copies by my inept pipe making skills. Sad really.

Uuuum . . . the frightful reality of what you've just said may have gotten lost in translation, but if you insist upon what you wrote above, I am no longer coming to Germany! We actually have laws against that sort of thing in the US . . . unless it's consensual, which in this case IT IS NOT!

OK Folks,

in order to steer attention back to short pipes again here are some more Shorties for your mockery...

First...

...second...

...darn spots! :x This last one was especially fun to make doing this extreme reduction with the chamber and the mortise drilling having the same size (19,7 mm). This would theoretically allow one to smoke the pipe both ways (normal and chimney). The built in reamer in the tenon would then guarantee for an even cake in both tobacco chambers. It is also a good way of altering grain direction from straight to cross grain... 8)

There are more pipes in the pipeline but for now: Fire away! :takethat:

Best,

Steffen

Wow, I really like the 'reversible' aspect of that last one. I want it!

Hi Thomas,

I'm sorry, this pipe has already been sold to an artist in Austria :( .

Since I am new to the forum I have been giving a kind of overview of the pipes I have made so far, so not all pipes shown are still available ( in fact most of them are sold). But I will be presenting new ones in a short time...

Thanks for the compliment!

Best,

Steffen
