What kind of tool did you use for the rustication? Additionally, does the stem meet the stummel at an angle? Or is the face of the shank flattened to fit the stem?
I used a dremel with a barrel shaped cutting bit and used the "corner".
The mortise face is recessed about a 1/16th... not only does this hide the fact that I dont have a lathe....... but allows the user to switch to a fancy military style stem.
some days it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.
