Looking for a PIMO Tenon tool

Post by viccuus »

Howdy folks! This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking in the shadows for a bit. I've read over my options when it comes to fitting stems to pipes. Unfortunately, right now, money is a little tight, as is time (baby on the way, due date is less than 2 weeks away). I'm just looking to finish one last pipe before I turn into a baby-changing zombie. I'd love to try Delrin, but getting the material and trying it out is going to require more attention than I have right now. I've tried hand filing the tenon on my stem, but it's near impossible to keep the face of the stem and the tenon perpindicular and reduce the tenon evenly. To finish this long winded story, I've arrived at the conclusion that a tenon reducing tool is the best bet for the time being. I was just wondering if anyone might have a used one that I might buy off them.

Thanks for the help.

Tim West at JH Lowe has delrin tenons already made in various sizes. Give him a call to see if he has what you need.

Thanks hammer! I'll definitely look into that... wonder if the wife will be angry with more pipe stuff coming in the mail. I guess there's only one way to find out.

I think my Parish priest was the first one to tell me that.

Unfortunately, it looks like they JH Lowe doesn't sell Delrin rod in the size I need (1/2"). Thanks for the idea though. Hmmm... any other suggestions?

Believe it or not, I've recently been using tenons of 7/16" and 1/2" for a lot of pipes. They're great for thick-shanked pipes with drilling arrangements that would otherwise be impossible with a smaller tenon. There's a post on the forum somewhere where Todd talks about using large mortises and tenons to accommodate strange drilling, so I took that idea and ran with it.

Yeah i can imagine it is useful for specialist drilling etc or for a very large pipe. I repaired a pipe for someone at our club and that was 10mm so not too far off really. I guess im just conditioned by the fact that i like small pipes with small shanks, i pretty much exclusivly use 6mm delrin as it allows me to make very small pencil shanked pipes yet still maintain good wall thickness on the mortice. I guess i could branch out a bit in future lol.
