21st Annual Gateway Area Pipe Show & Swap!

Post by smokindawg »

Well, it's a go. The show that I always called the St. Louis Pipe Show, that was out by the airport in the past is going to happen. I got the info just a couple weeks ago.

Info:

Saturday February 28th 9am to 5pm
Heart of St. Charles Banquet Center
1410 South Fifth Street, St. Charles MO. 63301
(636) 947j-8270

I have the rest of the info if anyone wants it. Just FM me.

Ben, this is just my thoughts from what I heard last year, so take it with a grain of salt.

The hotel was going non-smoking compared to the year before. It did last year, allow smoking in some rooms and in the center where the show was, but no where else and had many complaints about the smoking in the center even.

After hearing all I did, I truly thought the show was over for good. I'm glad that I was wrong.

Anyway, I'd say it was moved due to the smoking element and I for one, think it was a good decision. I've heard good things about the place they moved it too and although the table rate is a bit more, the room rate is less I think.

I'm going to try like heck to get over there. I've only been smoking a pipe for about 6 months and dabbling in making them for 4 - I've never even been to a pipe show. I'll just be looking (and maybe buying), but definatly not selling. I'd like to met some of you guys in person.

I'm going to this show again this year. St. Louis is only a/b 300 miles and an easy drive.
I'm also doing the Reno show. That was an easy decision since my son and his wife live in Sacramento, so I get to spend a couple of days with them then drive the two hours to Reno.
I'm not sure how the Reno show will do, but that's okay, I've never been to Reno.

I've had a great time at this show the last two years. I'm still hoping to go, but not sure if I'll have enough pipes to justify getting a table. Hopefully I can get at least a couple more done before then. The ice storm that hit our area a couple of weeks ago really took its toll on my pipe making time!

Tonni usually makes it to the St. Louis show too. Has anyone heard how he fared during the ice storm? It took the power down here for a four days, but was much worse in surrounding areas.

I'll be there, and if all goes well I should have a table. Light snow predicted here there and on the way. I sure hope they're right about the light

Dude, I saw you there, but when I tapped you on the shoulder and said "Hey Ben", you looked at me like I was some kind of kook. Maybe you were the other guy smoking a pipe and looking at pipes.

I was there. . . sort of. . .

It took me 5 hours to make the drive over from KC (snowpacked roads all the way to Columbia). By the time I got there I had the worst stomach ache I've had since was a kid. I walked about half the show (met Bruce Weaver) before I had to go back outside to the truck. I took a short nap and didn’t feel any better so I headed back home. Luckily the roads were clear by then, but I was a hurtin unit by the time I got back home. I was sick in bead for the next 3 days.

Sorry I missed you.

Does anyone know when/where the show is this year? I'm from St. Louis and would love to make it this year.
