More New Pipes--#s 8 & 9
More New Pipes--#s 8 & 9
Gentlemen,
Here are my latest creations, up for your scrutiny. Hopefully these will withstand the blows that you heave at them. I would like honest opinions and criticisms as always.
Thanks for looking, gentlemen, and thank you in advance for your comments.

2 things on the first pipe:
1- The bamboo seems too beefy for the pipe. I think this is accentuated with the shank/extension transition that looks like it has to flare way out to match the extension.
2- I think the flare of the stem after the extension looks ackward for some reason... can't figure out why. From pic #1 it looks like the top part flares up and the bottom is nearly flat. It makes the stem look like it sits in crooked.
2 things on the second pipe:
1- the bowl looks like it crowns to the left of the bowl (as the picture shows it). Meaning that where the circle would have it "tip" looks off center.
2- The extension looks like it flares on the top and is straight on the bottom. I'm not saying it looks "bad" but it catches my eye as being off...
Now for the positive. I'm jealous at the fact that this is your 8th and 9th. My 8th and 9th don't look this good. The level of difficulty, especially the first, is high but you handle them *VERY* well. I like the bowl of the second pipe. What are the extensions made out of, there's 2 right?

Jeff I am not much on Pipes with extensions. The 1st with the bamboo is real pretty, but I would never buy or make one like it. It's a personal thing so don't take offense OK.
Now the 2nd Pipe, you got me. I not only would make a pipe with that type of extension, but more important I would buy one like it. Also like the bowl shape on the 2nd. Never seen one like it before. I see what random is seeing but IMO it's the way the pic was shot.

I like them, nice work. I do see what some of the guys are saying but think they are very minor and will probably improve as you make more pipes.
ps.... its nice to see someone else making pipes in NJ

I think that they are both exceptional and that I need to offer to mow Todds lawn for a week or so in exchange for letting me hang out in his shop for a few days
I absolutly love the second pipe and what you did with the top.

I will agree!
Very nice indeed! I like both pipes Jeff. The beefyness of the bamboo on the first one is atypical of the thin lines you normally see with bamboo stems...but I think it is very cool.
The second pipe, I think it rocks. The kind of 'sunken chamber' look is really cool.
Nice nice nice...I likee!
