Ebonite Rod $2.79 - 12" rod

Post by Spence Pipes »

I ran across this site and found a 12 inch piece of ebonite rod for $2.79. Does anyone know if this is the same type used for stems? If so, this is an awsome deal.

Do you have any idea what diameter it is? Their description doesn't say.

If it's at least 16-18mm, it's a good deal. I have a feeling it's much smaller than that.

Not sure of the size. I'm going to try and get in touch with them to find out. I'll post with the size when I get the answer.

Ebonite Friction Rod

Post by Danskpibemager »

The diameter is just under .500 inches. The quality may not be what a pipemaker is looking for as I was told the porosity of the vulcanite is not as dense as what we're used to in ebonite rod. I had thought about checking it out awhile back but the shipping for a couple of 12" rods bordered on the ridiculous so I decided against it. Definately let us know about the quality if you decide to spring for a couple of rods.

That's too small for anything but pencil shanks, not to mention a very narrow button at around 12mm.
