Contrast stain.

Post by Briarfox »

How does one get a really contrasty stain? I've heard that you can stain with a darker stain then sand all but the stain in the grain off. then move to the color stain you want to finish the pipe with.

Is this correct? And what are some other methods you guys use.

Thanks

That's pretty much it... or instead of sanding, you can use a tripoli wheel to take the base stain down before doing the 2nd (or 3rd) color.

You will still need to sand after using the compound, otherwise the stain won't take evenly.

Actually, you don't.

Wipe the buffed pipe well with alcohol and the lighter stain goes on just fine.
