New finish

Post by TreverT »

I've been working on this new finish for sandblasts:

It's a very subtle two-tone. The recesses are reddish while the highlights are gold-yellow. Opinions?

Gorgeous. I absolutely love it. It's the third step in erosion finishes, imo. The soft(er) traditional Euro style, then the Cook/Ruthenburg/Bonaquisti/etc American style, and now this.

Congratulations on starting a trend. (Just wait, you'll see  )

Maybe it will finally ignite interest in blasts on your side of the pond, too. THAT would be double-cool.

One of these, Trever, I will own a Talbert Briar sandblast. One of these days. Your blasts are the finest in the business, bar none.

I recently came up with my own two-tone sandblast method, but it still needs more refining. And don't worry, it looks nothing like yours. :)

Very nice... looks very organic and natural to me. It makes a big difference without looking like you did anything, if'n I'm explaining myself right.

If you're doing it via sandblasting, be prepared for headaches  Works well, looks beautiful, but it's hell to get even.

Thanks for the kind words, all! I've been pleased so far with how these are coming out. The only annoyance so far has been that I've been forced to use shellac to set the stain instead of Zapon, because Zapon (and the three other lacquers I tried) all create an annoyingly different surface shine between the two stain colors. The quest for the perfect thin, semi-matte finish continues...
