I use 9/32", unless I'm making a really big pipe, then I use 9/32".
But if I'm making a really small pipe, I use 9/32".
Hope this helps.

No problemo. I've only got one in the works right now, a special order that's going to Germany. I've been severely distracted from pipe making the last few weeks with one emergency after another popping up. I do really need to catch up though, so I'm hoping things start to quiet down here soon.timothy thorpe wrote:thanks kurt!!! any new pipes in the making.KurtHuhn wrote:There really isn't a standard. Use whatever works for you. I use 1/4", 3/16", and 5/16" for the most part, but I've also used 3/8" on occasion.

Hey Tim,hi rad, how have you been!!!! may i ask were you got that size from.
I got that size at Ace Hardware. They sell many sizes of drill bits.
Seriously, like Kurt said, tenon size really doesn't matter as long as you don't make it so large that the mortise walls get really thin or so small that drilling it will make the tenon walls too thin.
