Has anybody used maple burl for pipe making? I was able to aquire about 18 lbs of burl from a woodworking supply store that was going out of business. I'm currently working on two maple pipes, one is a large billiard and the other a freehand. Does anybody know the smoking qualities of maple burl? I figure that for the price of the material they are perfect practice for shaping and finishing.
