Ok I just read a article on Andrew Marks, where he states that he uses olive oil for a finish. I have thought of doing this in the past but was told that it would go rancid and would leave a bitter taste. Dose anyone have any experience with this.
I like my olive oil for cooking. Just kidding, however it does have a strong smell to it. I suggest taking some briar cover it in oil and smell it after a few days. I'll bet it will smell similar to olive wood.
theres a slight sheen that flattens over time- mineral oil always seemed (for lack of a better word) more "oily" than this stuff. I was given a quart of it by the guy who sorta mentored me into getting a lathe and he's the wood guru
$10 it worth a shot
i'm not sure how it would do briar- but ive tried on olive, osage, cherry, walnut, and eucalyptus - all have taken to it well
CRAP! It just hit me that I was just down the street from the local Woodcraft fixing a downed server, and I completely forgot that I needed stuff there. *grumble*
Well, there's nothing for it. I'll eat my lunch, and hop in the truck again....
