Small Billiard

Post by Heinz_D »

Just finished another pipe. A little Billiard from a smaller plateau block:

The pipe is 135 mm long (stummel 78 mm, stem 57 mm) and 42 mm high. The diameter is 35 mm in the widest range and 29 mm at the border. The tobacco chamber is 19 mm in diameter and 35 mm deep.
The stem is handcut from vulcanit. Diameter (stummel/stem) is 13 mm.
The weight of the pipe is 35 g.
The finish is contrast stained with black and orange and lightly grinded with steel wool to take off too much orange... Than polished with carnaubawax.

Ther are no scratches of the stem on picture #2 - I just didn't wipe of some dust (the pipe layed on my worktable) before I made the pictures.

Thank you for any comments...

Wow, that's a very nice pipe Heinz! Nice grain, and well oriented with the classic Billiard shape. Your stain brings out the grain very nicely too. I think you did an excellent job overall on this one!

Heinz, that's really nice! The only thing I would like to see you do is to run the taper in the stem all the way to the shank. It helps to balance it out and gives it a cleaner overall look.

Nice looking pipe bud. I had the same thought about the stem. Taper it all the way to the shank.

This one was thought as an experiment with small plateau blocks! I wanted to figure out, if I'm able to make a smaller one! You may think, that it must be as easy as big pipes - but if you've little issues with symmetry on big pipes they'll be much more on smaller ones, I thought!

Don't know, if I'm rigth - but this one realy satisfied me!

For your question, Duke: I've 2 interested customers of an German forum and the price is fitted on 100,- € (about 125,- US $). Now I'm waiting for an answer, who of the guys want to buy the pipe...
