Is there anything besides cigar ash that is used to repair a burn out in the bowl? Can briar dust be mixed with epoxy to do the repair? Thanks for any help.

And I've been thinking that you could drill out the spot that is burnt out and cut a plug of that size from scrap briar. Then use a high temp epoxy to glue it back into place. Then work it back down to flush with the bowl and refinish.
Once you get a little cake over it, it should be fine.

I wouldn't put any plastic product anywhere near a burning ember. High temp plastic or not. If a dowl is needed, simply ensuring a tight fit should be all that's necessary.
However, at that point, I think I'd just scrap the pipe and make/buy a new one.
