Rusticating, wear a kevlar glove!

Post by JSPipes »

I have a kevlar glove I usually wear when rusticating a pipe. Today I forgot to put it on. Ended up with some puncture wounds in my hand. Fortunately it's just a flesh wound.

Wear a protective glove!

I have punctured palms during rustication time, and oddly shaped nails during shaping time. (40 grit spinning at 3600 RPM will give you an interesting manicure in no time!)

Tyler, I've done that to my nails many a time! I don't expect I'll ever find a way to prevent that experience. 8O

I like to shape with 100 or 120 grit, so I've got a little extra reaction time before I lose too much finger. :)

I am, however, missing several large chunks out of my left hand due to various mishaps with a carving chisel while rusticating....

Yeah, for a true woodworking hero, five fingers on each hand is a clear must not have…

Does having one finger just a little too short from a table saw accident count? 8O

It might not yet fully make it for a place in that famous retirement living community of the very honorable guild of pipemaking veterans, but it will probably get you mighty close…
