Post by magruder »

Thanx to Jeff gracik for guidence. These are the last three I've made.
Starting to use Mother of Pearl as decorative rings and caps. Stuff is a bitch to work with and fragile.

I've been thinking about using mother of pearl for a few years now... haven't had the time to get into it. I like the way you've used it though!

My favorite of the pipes you showed is the last one, but that's just because that shape is more my style. As for the one with the leaning bowl, my personal opinion is that it leans too much. The elephants foot is very attractive but I think there is a problem w/ the lines on the shank/extension/stem area. I guess it's mostly on what I can see of the top line of the extension. There seems to be a bulge that interupts the line and keeps the taper from finishing off the pipe.

I think they are all very nice pipes tho! Especially that last one!

All are very nice pipes! I see what Ben is referring too on the Elephant's foot. There does appear to be a slight bulge in the shank extension. The Elephant's foot is especially nice to me, I really like the smooth and then rusticated/carved portion, I like that combination in this pipe.

Great looking work!
