Handy sanding sticks at Woodcraft
Handy sanding sticks at Woodcraft
Hello Everyone,
I purchased a set of five, sandpaper holders at Woodcraft in Fort Wayne, IN. They were on sale and I am always looking for help on sanding the junction of the bowl and the shank. They consist of a plastic holder for each grit of sandpaper, the paper is about .25 to . 375 in. wide and the stick is about six inches long. The paper is a small sanding belt that wraps around the stick. The sticks are color coded for each grit. I can't remember the price but it wasn't too outrageous. They are called "sanding sticks."
I really like these little fellows and I thought I would pass it on.
Happy sanding,
Larry

Kevlar glove
Hello Joel,
I was happy when Woodcraft moved to Fort Wayne, I have picked up some African Olivewood from them and I also bought the Kevlar glove for rusticating. I am going up this week to see what kind of Cherry wood they have, I smoke Latikia tobacco and am wanting to try a Cherry wood pipe out.
I finished another pipe last night and again used my sanding sticks. I do quite a lot with small files and find the sanding sticks work like a file, but are more versatile.

Sanding sticks
Kurt,
Are these a lot like the ones at Woodcraft or more like a fingernail file.

And inexpensive, too. Just a few cents each.

These: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx ... at=1,42500 also work great. Really cut down the finishing time and flat spots.

Stephen,
Thanks for that link, I really need something like that. I have been fabricating my own special sanding instruments...those would make life a lot easier.

Bryan,
My pleasure. Before I bought my set I was wrapping sandpaper around my finger. These work much better and much faster.

Yeah I know the feeling. I have used everything from toothpicks to coffee stirrers. I will definately get me a set.
Thanks again!

Tadpoles, eh!
I checked out that link and I have to give those a try. My wife said to leave her nailfiles alone or she would scratch my eyes out so tadpoles it will be.
Man, I've really picked up some cool ideas from this site. Good idea, whoever started it.

tadpoles...
I went to the link and thought the sanding tadpoles looked handy, so, while at Woodcraft today, I found they had them in stock, don't call them tadpoles but they appear to be the same thing.
