The J. Alan Pipe site has FINALLY been updated!

Post by jeff »

Hey guys,

I wanted to drop a note to let you know that after almost 9 months, my site has been updated. I am now in control of the updating, so after learning how to do it, have been hard at work taking care of loose ends and long-overdue changes. Say goodbye to Flash (save the intro) because it is gone (I wonder if Random will check it out now?)

There are some new pipes there for you to see as well as some additions to the News page. I'll be fixing bugs and adding Past Work in this coming week and then I'll be adding some surprises to keep things interesting.

Take care all,

Jeff

Well, at the risk of sounding snarky, are there supposed to be photos on your showroom page? I'm using Firefox and I see nothing, just a text list of pipe titles and prices, but nothing where the pipe pictures & links should be.
Something to take a second look at?

PS - I checked it in IE and it works fine, so the showroom links problem is specific to Firefox. However, neither program will allow the enlarged photos to work immediately because the pop-up blockers stop them. Food for thought!

Thanks Trevor. I'm not sure why the photos did not appear in Firefox. That is my main browser, and all of my tests showed it working properly, including the pop-up windows. Which version of firefox are you currently using? That may affect the rendering.

I'll have a look when I get home to see what might be going on.

I'm using 1.0.7, but I also have AdBlock installed. While this doesn't normally affect my viewing of most in-page graphics, it is marvelous at identifying flashing ads and such, and perhaps something about your photo links is causing AdBlock to perceive your catalog photos as ads? I dunno - if you can see them in vanilla Firefox OK, it may not be worth worrying about.

Hello Jeff,

For me it works fine, using Firefox 1.5 beta1
Nothing is blocking and I can see all the pictures. But, if it can help :
- i think the pictures are not large enough
- the pointer keep arrow when going on a link picture instead of becoming a hand (which shows that we can click to enlarge)

That's all, great website Jeff !

Trevor,

Those factors might indeed contribute to the problem. But, this being my first move into the field of web design and management, I really could not say definitively, nor could I begin to troubleshoot such problems on my own.

David,

I will make sure that the pictures are larger for future pipes. As to the arrow, that is simply a quality of the pop-up feature. That is why I make a note that the photos can be clicked for enlargement. So, I'm not sure how to resolve this problem without creating links to individual pages with each photo (which I am reluctant to do because of the time involved).

Thanks again for the comments.

Jeff
