prince #2

Post by Doug535 »

Another shot at a prince. Finishing up on this guy and would like any input before cleaning it up the rest of the way. Likes/dislikes, what would/should I change? This is the first integral tenon I've done and it went fairly well, will have to do a slightly larger tenon to put the rings on then turn it to proper dimension. I ended up with an ever so slight groove on the tenon at the face, trying to face the ring.

Specs are:
bowl height = 1.45
bowl width = 1.53
chamber = .75
chamber depth = 1.24
length = 6.25

Too wide at the top but fixable. Follow Scottie's link to the KC pipe club contest and look at the example posted.

I think the bowl is too tall, and too symmetric top to bottom - Princes usually have a bit of "pudge" and you want a squat, open look to the bowl, ie, not a proper apple, which is what you have here. It helps with the long lean presentation.

Thanks for the input guys, think I'll leave it as an apple. It is almost without flaws and I'd like to finish it as a smooth. Will get on another stummel and try to do a proper prince.

Probably the best idea, yeah. Wrecking something good to try to make it perfect is stupid.

I can not see the pictures. Is there something I need to do to view them? They show a black square and says image beside it. I've tried clicking on it.

Not sure, are you using a Mac? DocAitch has trouble seeing them too unless he uses a different computer.

Hmmm, what browser are you using? Looks like IE has dropped opening some jpg images. Could try another browser, I use chrome and can see them on all my devices. If you do use chrome you may need to go into settings and allow all images.
