2smoke from GA

Post by 2smoke »

Real name:Doug Banks
Age:50
Location:Georgia
Years a pipe smoker:Off and on since 1986
How you got into pipe making: Just now getting started
Other interesting facts:I was a machinist and toolmaker in the late 1980's and early 90's and have been in the cabinet making industry for the last 28 years all the while missing being a machinist. I have also been a dirt bike rider and have been the team manager for both of my sons motocross racing endeavors, that's where my user name comes from. My grand father on my dads side was a farmer, blacksmith and also a watch repairman. All 6 of my uncles on that side of my family were either in metalworking or construction, so, I guess you could say that it is in my blood. After always wanting a lathe of my own, so, in January I bought a 1945 South Bend 10L metal lathe and completely restored it with the intention of using it to make pipes. Below are a few pictures of the lathe and my first attempt at making a pipe out of a piece of pine just because it is cheap practice material.

Very nice job on that lathe! And for a first pipe, that's not bad so far. Keep it up!
