Pardon my oldness, but I know there's 3 pages of posts on varnish! Were the hell are they?

Try looking for "shellac" instead. Varnish and shellac are not the same thing - which is one of the points discussed, IIRC. :)

Kurt,
What I wanted to know, when you make the 3/1 mix, do you have any problems with your stain bleeding or rubbing off?

Yes, you always have a little of your topstain come off, but you just account for that when applying it.
