Auction for katrina victims

Post by KurtHuhn »

I posted this to alt.smokers.pipes last night, a private list I'm on, and my wife hast sent it around to a few boards she frequents. My post to ASP follows:
Okay, I've been watching NBC tonight. This is the first I've seen of
the devastation caused by Katrina - I've been buried in work, and have
been so busy I couldn't turn around and spit. Tonight I've been treated
to a huge eye opener.

All of this devastation breaks my heart. I can't describe the grief I
feel. This is absolutely the worst thing I've seen in my lifetime. A
couple of my very close friends are volunteering, and are headed into
the destruction zone tomorow or the day after. I fear for their safety,
but I admire their conviction, and praise thier sacrifice.

So, this weekend I wil be making a pipe. This pipe will be auctioned to
the highest bidder, and every last red cent will go to aid the victim of
the hurricane. I'm considering auctining off the pipe here, but I want
to be sure that it reaches everyone possible, so I will advertise this
auction everywhere I can.

The Pipe will be:
- made from the finest block of briar I have
- a shape that makes full use of the grain of that block
- posted to a special page on my site that is not yet coded
- (http://www.pipecrafter.com/hurricane)
- advertised everywhere and anywhere
- taking my entire weeked to make
- shipped to you via FedEx Overnight

Donations will be made immediately, in full, and probably a fistfull of
dollars more, to a select few agencies. To start, I've chosen:
- The Salvation Army
- CoffeCup Software (http://www.coffeecup.com/hurricane/)
- My wife and I will buy goods and will forward them along

Just a heads up. I'll post pics and descriptions throughout the
weekend. Bidding starts at $225. Just as a teaser, this particular
block could do *really* well as a volcano or elephant's foot. The
birdseye will be *stunning*.

I've put up a page on my site at the link above, and bidding has already jumped to $350 (yes, sight unseen). I'd appreciate if you folks could assist in getting word out - or even bid you're able. :)
