first billiard

Post by calsbeek »

i have one store bought pipe, a stanwell billiard. This is my first attempt at a billiard and I tried to clone the stanwell.

Its the first time I've taken stain off while buffing....not sure what went wrong there.

Generally pleasing to me, I like the slim shape of the bowl, looks very Danish. Not bad for a first billiard.
The most eye catching departure from a standard billiard is that your bottom line drops under the bowl. The bottom line should be straight for the shank and first 1/2 of the bowl, then rise.
Also, your stem is bulgy for the first 1/4 of its length and the shank narrows then flares a bit, this makes the stem/shank look heavy.
You might obtain a cheaper " basket pipe" specimen, or study some of Sas' pictures and sketches for guidance. He posted an annotated picture in " Three for Review, just below this entry.
