turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
I plan to turn down an oversized tenon from a big chunk of ebonite. Any reason I can't cut this off and use it just like a delrin tenon (i.e., epoxy the ebonite tenon into a different ebonite stem)?
Re: turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
Why wouldn't You just turn the tenon on the piece You are making the stem from? Norm.

Why don't you just use delrin if you're not doing an integral tenon? I don't see an advantage of ebonite if you're not making it integral in the first place.
Re: turning oversized tenon from scrap ebonite
why not turn the tenon on the stem I'm using:
-because I drilled it for delrin but screwed up the mortice and had to re-drill the mortice oversized
why not just use delrin:
-I could do, but I don't have it on hand, whereas I DO have the ebonite and turned down the tenon to fit.
in other words, I don't see this as a new standard I'd use again and again, just wondering if there is any reason NOT to do it.

Go ahead, it will be fine for the situation you are describing. If I recall correctly Michael parks makes all his tenons from Cumberland.

I have done that and figured the piece was cursed and saved it for another use later, when the curse wore off, Norm.why not turn the tenon on the stem I'm using:

It's no issue, go ahead and do it.
