Dublin

Post by Albert.A »

Hello everyone.

This is a pipe I finished a few days ago. It has a cumberland stem and a light orange stain.

I think the pipe turned out pretty good, but I'd love to hear what you guys think as always. :)

The fit and finish are nice on this. The shaping looks intentional to me. Nice work.

I wonder why you made the front of the bowl come up as far as it does. Maybe you can explain your thinking behind the idea.

Well, I wanted to make it look elegant and somewhat "pointy", kinda like a ships prow (not that ship's prows are very elegant but anywho...), which is also the reason why the front of the bowl seen from the top has a kind of a rounded pointiness to it.

After it's all said and done however, I do realize some things that would improve the elegant posture I was after. first of I think it would benefit from a slightly heavier forward cant, so the angle between the shank and the back of the bowl would be at 90 degrees. And secondly, I would probably make the top of the bowl a little more curved, like in the picture below.

Thanks for the crituque. :)

Very nice. I wonder if a very slight bend in the stem would balance out the angled rim a bit aesthetically even though it's a straight pipe. It's a nice looking pipe with excellent fit, finish, and execution as far as I can see.

Also, props for tackling an oval shank.

My thoughts exactly, LL!
It's looking good! I'm with Wayne, maybe a bit of bend would have helped the flow.
Btw, it might just be the pics, but I do not see the cumberland? Or am I starting to get blind on top of deaf (according to the wife).

Well, you should'nt be to worried about your eyesight, at least not on account of my photography. ;) I'm looking to upgrade my lighting a bit in the near future, cause even though I think the photos turn out okay I'd like to have them a little more brightly lit.

Here you can see the cumberland. :)
