As far as I know, the order to ban sale of Ivory is not yet in effect and may never be.

Don't use real ivory anyway, legal or not!
most people probably think it's okey to use the "pre-ban" stuff, but I think it only tells the people involved in the illegal trade that there still is a market for it, and that's a shame. The whole thing is a shame really, because ivory is one of the most beautiful materials I know (my grandfather have some chinese figurines made of ivory that he bought in China in the 50s), but with around 30 000 (yes, 30 000!) elephants falling victim to poachers every year I don't really care if it's beautiful or not!

I for one would never buy a pipe that has real ivory on it.

Just use mammoth Ivory, be hard work to make them even more extinct than they are already.
