Early stages of Rhodesian shaping: Question

Post by calsbeek »

This is my second attempt at this shape (well ok, my first try was a bulldog but I digress).

This doesn't look right to me yet. I know that I need to take more off the back of the bowl (i.e., the side closest to the shank) to ease the transition but does the front of the bowl need a lot more off as well? My eyes can't make it out yet.

Other suggestions welcome of course. What am I missing?

The demarcation line on the bowl should occur near or denot the change of angle, so I'd start taking the bowl in right there. This will lighten the shape and make it more in line with the stem size you have... ie better proportioned. I'll draw it up in a sec here.

Take a pile of material off, as per red lines.
