drilling an opera

Post by pipeguy »

Hi all,I recently came across an opera shaped pipe.Outside of being a cool conversation piece
it doesn't look easy to make from a production point of view.Am I thinking right that perhaps
3 holes are drilled for the chamber and then opened up or am I missing something thanks Bob Clark :?:

I made one as a prototype once to test out the smoking qualities. I just drilled a round chamber and made it oval with a dremel. Definitely a lot more work than standard drilling.

I've owned one before and didn't like the way it smoked. Maybe that's just the old man in me.

I just tried it again tonight. The top has a lot of surface area, but by the bottom of the bowl, it smokes fine. The taper makes a drastic difference in the development of the smoke. It would take some getting used to. Also, the smoke tends to get in my eyes because of how small it is. The angle for airway and mortise is challenging to be sure.
