Years a pipe smoker: Not a pipe smoker

How you got into pipe making: I am an experienced woodcarver and have been carving for around 30 years now. I was recently in a community theatre production of Sherlock Holmes and there is a tradition that, on opening night, you give a gift to your castmates. I thought, given the subject of the play, I'd try my hand at carving pipes for them. After some internet research and sourcing briar and stems from a supply source in the US, I carved 8 pipes for my castmates. Turns out I REALLY enjoyed carving them...so much so that I want to learn more and, as such, ended up finding this forum. I'm looking forward to picking everyone's brains on the topic and learning more about this fascinating branch of woodcarving.
