We all make stuff other than pipes, so here's a place where "anything goes" as far as showing off some of your projects and other hobbies.

Airstrip...

Post by JMG »

Here's some updated pics of the airstrip we built in our village. These are a couple months old so the grass has really taken on by now.

Until our slasher gets here from the States we have to cut the airstrip (all 600 meters!) with what's called "sarips." Needless to say we are all very much looking forward to the arrival of the slasher. Here's my wife doing her part to help out...

I see the plane made it in one piece. That means you did it right I suppose.

Yeah, my wife and I are missionaries here. We are working to translate the Bible to hope one day to be able to turn things over to the Hewa people...so not permanent, but we are here for the foreseeable future.

That's really amazing! Where are you exactly? How long have you been there?

It looks to me like that pilot was milking the luxurious space of that airstrip a bit. It looks like he could have landed it in about half the distance. :D

Pretty cool to see that. Thanks for sharing it!

I seriously think our strip could have been cut down to only 400 meters and still have been totally safe...at least for the smaller, one-engine planes. For PNG to be such an underdeveloped country it crazy how strict their aviation laws are.
