Mighty Texans take on Kansas, 2014

Post by Alden »

If you guys haven't heard by now, the 7 pipes for the North American Pipe Makers Contest are from;

Ryan Alden
Tyler Beard
Premal Chheda
Rad Davis
Jesse Jones
Nate King
Colin Rigsby

By now you guys are prolly saying, hey, I know those guys !
Tyler had an excellent point. He noticed nearly every one of winners are regular contributors here on PMF. I don't think thats coincidence.
Despite the fun and games, this place is the hometown of the High Standard hand made pipe for North America and really for the English speaking world.
Oh, and that part about the Mighty Texans ?
Yup. FOUR of those pipes were made by Texians.
Don't think thats a coincidence either, but I could be biased.

Congratulations Ryan, and to all the others. Who knows, Texas may become the pipe making capitol of the world!

Leave it to Texans to think of pipe carving in football terms.

Dude, your billiard was killer. I was going to buy it, but there wasn't a price on it!

Seriously, there were a lot of excellent quality entries. I think it all came down to bowl shape. If it wasn't the epitome of a classic billiard as far as bowl proportion it was eliminated.

One of my posse, Bobby Fabian, won the set. I've known Bobby for years and he actually worked for me for a time. We rode together so I got a good while to look at all the winning pipes!

You have to admit, we got a great team name too. I was originally going with "Texas Redskins" but Mighty Texans seemed less controversial.

Yeah, we'd probably be a great football team. At 6' I think I'm the smallest. Tyler and Ryan are practically giants!

Congratulations to all of the Magnificent Seven! Great work guys.
To all those that didn't go, you don't know what you are missing. Great venue this time, great food and super camaraderie.
I hope the KC club is able to have it there again (from now on as far as I'm concerned).

It's against my better judgement to help Texans and NYCers think more of themselves (if that's even possible) than they already do, but congratulations, guys! I look forward to seeing them when pictures get posted.

What also deserves mention is that there were several other folks here whose pipes were fantastic. Wayne's caught my eye. Scott Thile too. I loved both of those pipes.

Are you serious???!!! The winner's first name was BOBBY? If so, that makes four of the five sets there have ever being won by a "Bob" or "Bobby". The odds are astronomical.
