User activation and email problems

Post by KurtHuhn »

All, given the recent jump in spam postings by automated bots, I've taken a step I didn't think I was going to have to take - I've put the forum into admin-only activation. That means that when a new user creates an account, only a site admin can activate that account and allow the new user to start posting. Yes, it's a pain my rear, but it's better than having to pop open my browser and see ads for viagra, 'male enhancement', and hardcore porn.

Also, everyone please note, that AOL and Road Runner have both decided to block email from the entire network on which my mail server sits. If you're an AOL or RR user, and aren't getting emails from either pipemakersforum.com or pipecrafter.com, that's why. Blame your ISP - they've apparently decided that they know what's best for you. I've tried to get the network unblocked, but I was basically given the finger and a big F-U.

That's all for today. Carry on!

As an AOL member I find it very annoying, I should have that choice not have it forced on me, as this means I cant contact you Kurt, I was wondering how you were progressing with the prize for the UK nationals as ime now on the final push to get stuff in....

Garry, Could you do me a favor and send me your mailing address again? I'll send a pipe out before the end of the week.
