I'd like to hear the details. I just ordered my first ebonite rod last night. That shit is expensive!

I'm interested, but not going to participate. Having you send it back to me in Europe will most likely make it more expensive than just buying it myself here in Europe...

Dependent on minimum order size I would be in.

(in other words I probably could only afford a rod or two but would like to participate if possible)

Group Ebonite buy

I can dig it. I've never done a group buy, but it seems cost effective.

Does anyone know what the minimun order for ebonite from germany is? I would be interested in some rods if i could get a ballpark price per rod. It seems crazy expensive to order 1 or 2 from a briar supplier in the U.S. i would rather buy a few more rods, than to pay shipping 2 or 3 times from PME.

If we get enough interest, I'm hoping Kurt will chime in since he coordinated the last one. I'd be willing to do it if Kurt coaches me through it and sends me what info he has but, like I said, I suck at this sort of thing. If anyone is interested in coordinating speak up.

If you're buying from germany it might be interesting to have it shipped to someone in Europe and ship it from there? I should be able to send up to 5kg's of ebonite to the USA for 42USD. (10kg would be 82USD, 20kg would be 126USD)

Max packet size is 4ft 11" long and 1ft 3" diameter, so that should fit quite some rods.

Offcourse I don't know what the manufacturers shipping costs to the USA are, might be cheaper anyway.
In case anyone needs my services, just let me know :-)
If it's cheaper to have it sent to me and have me sending it to the US, I'll order some rods for myself aswell.

I've got plenty so I won't be participating.

It's really nothing. Just keep a spreadsheet of who ordered what, shipping from you to the participants, and shipping from manufacturer to you (split among all of you).

Aside from being a pain in the butt, it's not too bad.

You pulled the pin on this grenade, they're tricky to hand off.

So now Kurt explained it. You're all set.

I'm sure you don't really want the accolades or the responsibility, but thanks for taking the initiative on this one, Wayne.

Okay. It looks like were moving forward with this. I'll contact SEM and find out what the minimum order is and an updated pricing list. After that, I'll start making a list of who wants what. Stay tuned.

That's not a bad idea. That way our fellow pipemaker's in Europe could participate in the bulk buy. I'll have to get some info from SEM and try to wrap my head around the logistics and get back with you Massis. Thanks for the offer.

Oh,
If you're buying from SEM, I'm less interested. I'll still keep tabs on this thread though.
