Dang!

I couldn't get anywhere on that site. Tried clicking on several places where the little hand presented itself, but to no avail. :(

$34 for a briar block, but only $1 for a complete finished pipe?

Perhaps there are still problems with the site.
Regards,
Frank.

The price is all right.

As to celebrate the open of our webshop, we now decide to let the customer fix the price for some of the pipes.

If you are interested in one of them, please make a price for it and inform us via e-mail. We will sell the pipe to you at your price.

Also the first ten bamboo buyers can enjoy a good price, that is one USD for one piece of bamboo.

There are a number of different payment methods available. The simplest way is to pay by via PayPal(www.paypal.com). Our PayPal E-mail is pipemaker@263.net

Nice bamboo, great seller!

Post by kbadkar »

Firstly, thanks Mindong!

I ordered some bamboo from Mindong with some trepidation. China, after all, isn't known as a pipe smoking culture (non-opium style, that is), and quality of materials is often determined by market demand and subsequent availablility, personal working/smoking experience, and the historical knowledge of what other pipemakers have discovered works best. I was also concerned that Mindong doesn't have a reputation yet to preserve and my payment could be lost in the binary ocean between us without recourse.

Well, all my fears were allayed when my order of bamboo arrived - within 5 days of ordering, even though customs tore open the package and crudely restuffed the contents and half taped that mutilated box back together. The quality is quite good and the Chinese purple bamboo is an exquisite variation of color with similar fine figuration and knuckles.

So, in conclusion, do not hesitiate to order anything from Mindong. He has a nice selection of finely grained Italian plateaux briar blocks as well (he can email pics). I might even try out a tobacco chamber drill bit in the future. To top it all off, he is nice guy with good email communications throughout and in good English. If this were Ebay, I would say, "Great seller, quick delivery, excellent product, perfect transaction, highly recommended!!"

Thought I would let you guys know my experience with Mingdong. Since his website was unclear on pricing, at least to me, I wrote and asked his prices for bamboo. He wrote back saying since I was a new customer I could have the sample price, white for $1 stick and purple for $10 per stick. Five sticks max of each. I ordered five of each. Total with shipping was $86 USD. Sent him the money through PP. Less than two weeks later it arrived. He had sent 11 white and 6 purple and included a polished ox horn and a Tibetan Yak horn. Heck of a deal.

I don't know much about bamboo other than what I have seen on pipes and what I dug out of my back yard but this stuff is top notch. All perfectly clean, no bad spots at all. My best stick, they are all 13-14 in., has 21 nodes in 13 inches, that is almost two nodes per inch. There are a couple of these the others average a node per inch. I'm telling you this is good clean stuff.

No idea if they're still selling, but this is the email address I had for them: pipemaker@263.net. Please be aware that I haven't emailed him/them for a long time, so you may want to establish credentials before you send money off.

Oh, and they used to have some nice Ox horn as well. Both the horn and bamboo were fairly expensive though.

THanks for the reply Markle, sorry it took me so long to see it...I am wanting to try a bamboo stem for the first time ever, any suggestions on where to get more economical bamboo? I'm sure it's been talked about on here, I just cant seem to find it.

Thanks so much
