Repair bands or decorative ones that are part of a pipe to begin with?

For a basic flush-mount metal band, just select, cut, and dress the edges of a suitable piece of tubing, measure its I.D., O.D., and length, then relieve the end of the shank one or two thousandths smaller than the I.D. of the tube (you want a snug slip fit), and 5-10 thou wider and deeper than the band's O.D and length when cutting the block on your lathe.

Attach with epoxy (some guys use superglue, but epoxy is better in my experience), and finish the pipe normally.

Do NOT forget the hardness difference between metal and wood when sanding, though; and also take measures to prevent metal dust from transferring into the wood & staining it when leveling. (One or both of those things is where most guys go wrong with their first decorative band)
