Chamber Size

Post by jabomano »

I have a couple of higher end pipes with 3/4" chambers and I'd like them bored out to about 7/8". Do you see a problem with this? I just don't like the smaller chambers. Norwood will do it for a nominal cost.

I dont see a problem as long as there is sufficient wall. I have done this with a Castello in the past with no problems.

I don't see a major problem with widening the chamber as long as you leave 1/4" walls when you're done. I'd suggest using a spoon bit for the job. Should you encounter a flaw in the now wider chamber, you may make your pipe more prone to burn out.

I'm skittish about doing it because one of the pipes is a Cavicchi 5 c. The other is a David Enrique. Both have 3/4" chambers and I like a 7/8" Are you interested in doing it?

Personally, I would NOT try and widen a chamber on a perfectly good pipe of this caliber, just buy another with the chamber size you want.
If you don't wish to smoke this one, sell it and the funds from it will aid you in purchasing one that you want. That's just my opinion.
