Military stems

Post by pipeguy »

Hello all I just purchased a millitary mount kit works great
My question is when it comes to the brass ring.I know it's used to reinforce the mortice.
However is this 100% necessary? I've never seen them on older millitary mounts like
Dunhill or Charitans.

Yep.
Dunhill's normally have a silver ferrule.
You don't want to get a pipe back after a customer pushes the stem in too hard and cracks the mortise.
