I haven't made a video in over ten years. This might draw me out of hiding.

1. is the small circular inset for the stem (not the mortice bit, but the larger circular inset) cut with a forster bit? or is this done with a cutting tool on the lathe?
2. is the mortice drilled after the decorative ring is epoxied on? and is that just a faced piece against a faced shank or is there some king of male-female connection behind the decoration?
1. It can be cut with either, but a lathe tool will make a nicer cut.
2. Mortise is drill before usually. There is a tenon cut on the briar to hold the decoration. You can see the sliver of briar in the pic.

I know. Cool trick, isn't it? I just visualize a task in shop terms, then start typing while imagining myself doing the task in a room filled with people arguing about politics while 130 dB GangstaWrapMusic plays in the background. Instant neural novocaine. Been known to stun elephants, in fact. :D
