Re: First Meerschaum Cutty

People are afraid you'll shoot 'em with a poison arrow if they say something you don't like, is all. It is not an unreasonable fear. You did used to hang with some pretty tough customers... https://anywayinaway.com/photography/papua-new-guinea/hewa-tribe/ Despite all the absolute horse crap that is...

Classic English Billiard...

In light of recent thread conversations, I thought I would repost this classic English billiard that I originally posted about three years ago that got ZERO comments/critiques. I really don't understand your apathy, fellas. Not even the first yellow line. My only conclusion is that it was perfect an...

Re: First Meerschaum Cutty

Been a while since somebody got into a huff. I've got pipes that have been on here for years without a single critique...you guys suck. I'm taking my ball and going home. Jerks.

Re: Pipe #17. Rusticated Billiard

Pretty well done overall. The only critique I have is that it looks like the bowl/shank transition could be just a hair tighter. Might want to get some betters' feedback on that though. Nice job.

Pretty stinking close. I bought a lot of 10 rejects and there were 6 or 7 of that same shape. Some are beyond saving due to flaws, but a few can be salvaged, I think.

Reject pipes..

I bought some reject pipes from Steve just to piddle with since my shop isn't set up yet to make pipes. Anywho, the lot had 7 or so of the same shape. I reworked one a little yesterday. And I haven't posted anything in forever. So...here you go. I'll finish it up at some point. It had a giant flaw t...

I tough to go back to a "finished" pipe and start hacking at it. You made some good improvements with this. Well done.

Re: Bent Apple For Your Comments

My main critique is the proportions are off. The shank is too skinny and not long enough. Bowl shaping looks pretty good though.

Re: My seventh pipe, completed.

To give a positive word as to your work as well...Stem/shank junction looks great. Stem, overall, is pretty good. And your shaping on the bowl in regards to its cheeks looks nice. If you ever get over to MS, near Jackson let me know and I'll treat you to some food and we can grab a pipe at the Count...

Re: My seventh pipe, completed.

I think you'll find a straight shank looks odd as well... what you really want is A VERY SLIGHT taper in the other direction. It's a word trick the eye and brain play. The bowl is a bit more English or classical in design, a reverse taper, like you have here, is usually found on a bent pipe of more...

Re: My seventh pipe, completed.

Thanks JMG, I did think that looked okay, but after reading your comment and thinking about how it would look with a straight shank, I have to agree that it would look much better, It hadn't crossed my mind sooner. I had noticed a very slight taper when shaping it and I thought it was a good look s...

Haha, I know! I guess I just have to bite the bullet and try to find a good way to do it without ruining the rim.
I simply wrap a little sand paper around a pencil or a length of delrin and use that. Not the fastest, but works well.

George, what do think of some of Gustavo’s (Martelocuhma) stem bends? They look incredibly well done but certainly not a consistent, gradual bend.

While the stem work looks great, I didn’t think it looked like yours.
