Oh no! Not another lathe question!

But yes, here's another one.... I'm planing to buy a lathe end of April. My budget and my working space will be a bit tight. I've been reading, searching the web, reading again and search again and I have to tell you. I'm confused. I just want someone to point me in the right direction and say:"...

Re: Canted Pot

Thank you so much for these comments. It's really helpful. Helps me look at my pipes with new eyes. I just realized how this sounds... I did post this pipe, not because I'm particularly proud of it, but because there are things about it I'm not sure about. My main concern was about the bowl. The sha...

Re: Canted Pot

I'm going to be blunt here, because I think you want it. Yes sir, I do. And I guess nitpicking about things on a pipe is what makes a world of difference. So nitpicking is what I want! :) I did post this pipe, not because I'm particularly proud of it, but because there are things about it I'm not s...

Love this one.
The only improvement I can think of is that it would look much, much better with my face attached to the stem end of this pipe... :D

Re: Pipemaker Tooling

Wow. Is it x-mas already? This sounds really interesting. I'll also be offering shaping and sanding wheels that, if mastered and used correctly, can eliminate 90-100% of the hand sanding you're currently doing. I'm really interested in this. An idea would be to also make a short DVD/video/whatever t...

Re: something, something

The bowl is quite symmetric, and so it's the shank. They are unaligned, thought, and the flow is broken, but it looks like a design decision instead of a mistake. I like it. I don't quite understand this, sorry. Could you explain it more in detail, please? I'm specially interested in how the flow i...

Hm. That's an idea. Could team up with Tom Eltang to mach his chess board pipes... :D

Don't know what to call this thing. "Canted rounded out of shape Lovat reversed taperd stem" maybe... Would love your thoughts on this one though. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/5477111209_c2e17fe30e_z.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5255/5477710532_d53dde1b19_z.jpg http://farm6.st...

Short Bo Nordh documentary

Found this short documentary on Bo Nordh on youtube. 10 min. Really interesting. It's in Swedish with no subtitles. He doesn't say much of value but if anyone wants a translation I could do it. Don't think I would be able to put subtitles on it though.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OuvwAGUuUw S...

Thanks a lot Sas! This is exactly the kind of comments I need. Comments that push forward. That's some really helpful hints there. Something did feel wrong about this pipe but I couldn't put my finger on it.

You're totally right, Dixie. And now when you pointed my eyes in that direction, it's clear that the upper and the lower line of the shank/stem is not very well made. Thanks.

Re: Bent Brandy(?)

DG...this is just an awful looking pipe. You should send it to me immediately for, uh...destruction. Well, I'm sure you would do a good job killing this one, JMG... :D I basically have two concerns about this pipe. 1: that the stem might be a bit to short. 2: that the shank is a bit to thin. What d...
