Re: What I Wish I Would Have Done

Very true words, Nathan! But, well, for me making 20 billiards in a row is going to bore the living $&%@ out of me. I would loose interest. In my limited experience, I would say please, please leave the blowfish/freehand/bla-bla fancy shapes, keep with classics (a billiard, then a dublin, then ...

Re: Ernie's Shrine of Pipe Excellence

The Danish style is akin the ballet: lithe, graceful, flowing, feminine. Whaaaat?! Go sharpen your axe, clean your rifles, pour yourself a Scotch and maybe 'rassle a cow to the ground. They're good looking, but "ballet" and "feminine" aren't words a manly man (a man from TEXAS!)...

Re: What I Wish I Would Have Done

Nothing that hasn't been said before (though rarely so well). You're right. I certainly haven't reinvented the wheel but I can say that I haven't really seen anyone attempt it as I have just laid out. There are a lot of pipes posted that are "inspired by _____________" (insert pipemakers ...

Re: Creativity

Just because something could be said to be creative doesn't necessarily mean it is good, useful or enjoyable to look at. I don't necessarily think our community looks down on creativity I think it looks down on crappy pipes hiding behind the false facade of creativity.

Re: Defining "Danish"

I think it would be wise to take factory pipes out of the equation. I am pretty sure that no one here is looking to start a pipe factory. Stanwell is subject to the same downfalls as all pipe factories are when they emphasize quantity rather than quality (and that is not to say that a factory can't ...

What I Wish I Would Have Done

So I don’t post much. I try to keep up with the discussions but rarely feel like I have something to add of any significance. I guess that is something I need to get over and realize that, while I am certainly no expert, I have grown considerably since joining and that I might be able to help those ...

They are pretty easy to sharpen and smooth out with some diamond needle files. Harbor freight has a cheap set.

Well said, Rad. This is one of the worst posts I have read here at PMF. By stumping for your candidate you are essentially trampling all over another guys reputation, a guy who happens to be a member of the forum. You owe this group, and Nate in particular, an apology.

I know this thread has been completely hijacked...but this is fun! Here's a link to Ernie and I "sharing " a table. Notice the empty piece of leather marking the place Ernie and his vampire pipes should be seen. http://thepipeguys.com/2013-chicago-pipe-show/# Nevermind. Picture disappeared...

If by tenon cutter you are referring to the Pimo tool I would say don't waste your money. That thing is incredibly inaccurate. Although not ideal in all situations, delrin certainly made my life a lot easier.

Re: Shank diameter and wall thickness vs derlin tenon size?

I doubt if the briar was bad if there was no visible flaw. If I am doing the math in my head right the walls of your shank are less than an 1/8 and if your stem is a tight fit breakage is certainly possible. In addition to the 1/4 delrin you can also use the 3/16 stainless steel tubing that is used ...
